Soft Butter Naan

Soft, fluffy butter naan is a classic Indian flatbread that pairs perfectly with curries like rajma masala recipeChole Masala receipe, Paneer Butter Masala, or Dal Makhani. Made at home with simple ingredients, it’s buttery, soft, and irresistible.

Ingredients (Makes 6-8 Naan)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 2 tbsp yogurt

  • 3-4 tbsp milk (adjust as needed)

  • 2 tbsp oil or melted butter

  • 3-4 tbsp melted butter for brushing

  • Water as needed


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

  2. Add yogurt and oil. Mix gently.

  3. Slowly add milk and knead into a soft, smooth dough.

  4. Cover and let it rest for 1-2 hours.

Step 2: Shape the Naan

  1. Divide dough into 6-8 balls.

  2. Roll each ball into an oval or tear-drop shape about ¼ inch thick.

Step 3: Cook the Naan

  1. Heat a tawa or non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Place the rolled naan on the hot tawa. Cook until bubbles form (1-2 minutes).

  3. Flip and cook the other side.

  4. Brush generously with melted butter.

Step 4: Serve
Serve hot with your favorite curries like rajma masala recipe, Chole Masala receipe, Dal Makhani, or Paneer Butter Masala.

Tips:

  • Add finely chopped garlic for garlic naan.

  • For extra softness, cover cooked naan with a kitchen towel.
